ARTICLE:
What would happen if you loved like a child?
by Tara West
Just the other day I received a touching email from my sister about “What love means to age 4-8 year old children”.
A group of professionals asked kids “What does love mean?” It really moved me to read some of the responses; things like:
'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.' Rebecca - age 8
'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.' Billy - age 4
'Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.' Terri - age 4
'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.' Bobby - age 7
'If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.' Nikka - age 6
'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.' Tommy - age 6
'During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.' Cindy - age 8
'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.' Karen - age 7
'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot People forget.' Jessica - age 8
*******************
Wow, I truly marvelled at what these kids came out with. What wisdom. What insight. What pure trust and belief in the world, themselves and what is around them!
They thought about what it meant, and then they expressed what they felt and saw from the heart.
This brings to me the thought. What would happen if you loved like a child?
I invite you, right now, to go lie down in some grass (or somewhere else of your choosing), squelch your toes, stretch, close your eyes, and deeply inhale that question.
Truly envision that question enveloping your whole being. Then let your definition float away, open your arms wide to your sides, and allow the peace and wisdom you have discovered to wash over you.
What does your future life look like when you surrender to the love of life, as envisioned by your inner child?

QUOTE
"I will not die an unlived life.
I will not live in fear
of falling or catching fire.
I choose to inhabit my days,
to allow my living to open me,
to make me less afraid,
more accessible,
to loosen my heart
until it becomes a wing,
a torch, a promise.
I choose to risk my significance,
to live so that which came to me as seed
goes to the next as blossom
and that which came to me as blossom
goes on as fruit."

LOVE YOUR JOB!
Introducing Career Coaching, offered by Tara West of Aussie Resumes
- Are you unsure what direction you want to take with your career - particularly in today's changing job environment?
- Do you need to give your career a boost?
- Have you set yourself a career goal but you're not sure how to achieve it?
- Need to feel more confident in interviews or other situations that require you to influence and negotiate outcomes?
- Looking to move into a career retirement plan?
- Looking to transition OUT OF retirement and into the workforce?
- Do you yearn to step out on your entrepreneurial path but not sure which path to take?
- Not sure what you want to be when you grow up?
If you answered YES to any of the above, consider the possibility of a coaching partnership to accelerate your career.
Having completed my studies in October as a Certified Professional Coach, I now offer career coaching in a number of key areas. Being in the careers industry for almost 17 years, I have been "informally" coaching people for years.
Through my work with Aussie Resumes, I have been blessed to assist thousands of people in getting the job they want, in and from, various countries, including: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom, UAE, United States, and Zimbabwe (amongst others). This work has also included assistance to start-ups who need to market themselves and their new business to potential clients.
How does coaching work?
No matter where your location, I can coach you! I coach you over the telephone / Skype / email. (What is Skype? Visit www.skype.com.)
Coaching by phone is widely accepted and you will notice that almost all coaches conduct their coaching via this method (in fact, a vast majority of coaches exclusively coach via telephone due to the results clients achieve with telephone coaching).
When you receive coaching via telephone, you are more focused on what is being said and it allows you to be fully aware and present in that session with less distractions. It presents you with the opportunity of being coached anywhere, anytime - if you're on holiday or on a business trip, you can call in for your coaching!
Email coaching gives you the opportunity of a quick response and is also used as a support tool in-between coaching sessions.
What is career coaching?
Marcia Bench of the Career Coach Institute explains it very well: "Career coaches connect people with their passion, purpose, values and other critical aspects of their ideal work."
A Certified Professional Coach is also ideal for:
- Interviewing techniques / confidence
- Negotiating an offer
- Developing your personal brand
- Networking techniques
- Mapping your career goal(s)
- Optimising your post-hire performance
- + more
There are new doors that are just waiting to open if you take the step and walk through it!
Raving Fans
"She allowed me to lead the sessions and discuss my needs. I found that Tara had a good way of getting me to achieve things, sometimes even without me planning on doing it before the sessions. Her warm nature really comes over well. Her questions and challenges always seemed to be on the right track. It felt very comfortable and easy to open up to Tara. She is very natural and didn’t want to give me any challenges that I was not completely comfortable with, and when I was given a challenge I felt confident enough to push myself." - Julie Landers, Australia
"Tara did a superb job of helping me to identify what things I want to focus on and achieve in my life at this moment. During the exchanges it is clear that she believes her client already has the answers and knows what is best as the next step to take. Tara is very adept at drawing out the client's own wisdom. She is also good at setting fair goals/challenges to be achieved before the next session. She sets them at the right level of challenge - stretching, but not over-stretching. [She] is such a good listener that you get the sense that she is connecting with what you're saying at a really profound level. Another highlight for me was Tara's help to clarify what are the priorities in my life right now. And then once the priorities were identified she helped me to initiate a plan. Here again Tara demonstrated her skill at getting me, the client, to create the plan from my own ideas stimulated by her questions. I've really appreciated Tara's stimulating and invaluable ideas on creating and building a business." Stephanie Reed, France
"Tara brought many strengths to the coaching process, especially her quiet sense of calm confidence and her lack of judgement. By creating a safe haven in which to play with ideas, ideals, values and behaviour patterns, Tara held up a mirror allowing me to explore the intricate patterns swirling through my life. By gently teasing the patterns apart -with feedback from earlier sessions, gentle probing questions and intelligently structured homework questionnaires, Tara arranged for me find out who I really am, not the job titles or family positions, but who I am and who I want to be. Highlights include having the courage to say what I was going to achieve, set a deadline and making sure that events unfolded to achieve those goals. Learning how to honour my personal values, not just take what life dishes up, was one of the greatest lessons... I learnt a great deal about myself and how to create a new inner direction from Tara and the personal coaching process." Erica Mors, Australia

QUOTE
"The average person overestimates what he or she can do in a day, a week or a month, and they underestimate what they can do in a year, five years, and a decade. If you make the commitment every day to improve the quality of your life by only 1%, at the end of every year, you will be at least 365% improved."

TOOLS TO TRUMP YOUR INNER CRITIC
by Marian M Baker
n today's climate of headlines about panic in the financial markets, we need to practice smart fuel for our true prosperity even more. It takes rigor and daily practice. There are effective, simple ways of tapping into the energy of your "Inner Champion" (while trumping those limiting thoughts that sabotage enjoyment and tangible success). A while ago, over lunch I read "The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity" by Edwene Gaines (so far, it looks great, while I don't agree 100% with everything.) I don't find much value in affirmations that are overly positive, feel-good statements that don't seem real. (In my Wake Up Inspired book, there's a bit about "Hold the sugar" and how to create variations on the classic affirmation style that may work better for you.)
Here's one of my favorite ways to create truly inspiring momentum. At lunch, I got out a piece of paper and folded it in half. On the left side I wrote, "Limitations." (These could be limiting thoughts, inner critic attacks, perceived obstacles, etc.) For the right side I wrote," Allowing Abundance."
I like to start with the left side, because that stirs things up in a more penetrating way than if I just start with perky positives. It's useful to take an honest look at our not so pretty parts to see what may be insidiously getting in the way. The questions are simple. But you need to go below a superficial surface to get some juicy answers. I dove in to find some old stories that could still get me in the Achilles heel. What are you worried about?...afraid of?... where are you frustrated, resigned or cynical? These thoughts are not always active on my front burner. I dig down into the dark, linty corners of my old bags, you know? It's a bit embarrassing to reveal here, but hey, we're all human and I trust you can relate.
To preface what I wrote at the time of this lunch, my new book and website had just launched. I was grateful and thrilled. There was plenty of real life stress, too. The left side of the paper showcased that non-rational cocktail that blends fear of failure and fear of success.
The Voice of Limitation Said:
"What if I got carried away and I've spent too much time and effort and money on all of this ...? I could feel really stupid and need to start over or..."
Here's where the Inner Champion comes in, on the right side. It's funny how starting with the whiny stuff actually calls forth a fierce, loving Champion energy in me... like the Calvary riding in. This process taps into something beyond my five senses and logical brain. Over the years of doing this, I sense a very different "voice." It sounds like this:
Boy, that what if I screwed-up martyr story is a popular tape, hmm? It's so old, and it's not your truth, Marian. You're not stupid and you have nothing to regret or worry about. Keep tuning in to your higher guidance and enjoy the prosperity that's here right now... And much more to come.
Back to the Left side for another dip:
"I'm afraid of this turning into a big machine that needs constant feeding. What if I'll feel obliged to keep making more money through lots more hard work to keep paying for all of these people, plus.... And I won't really love my life any more (and oh, by the way that will make you a big fat hypocrite for being the author of a book called Wake Up Inspired.)"
In response to that, energy came in so strong and fast that my hand could barely keep up with the writing:
You are on a joyful path. This is leading to more celebrating, peace and pride. There will always be enough! Enough time, enough money, enough breathing room, enough fun, enough friendship connections, enough music and laughter, enough love, enough nature, enough quiet lunches, enough walking in sunshine, enough guidance, enough clarity, enough support and resources, enough courage and talent, enough growth and enough joy. Always. Trust this. It is the truth.
So, this moved me to well up and breathe a grateful, emboldened sigh.
I was the only customer in a sushi place, and I can hear the Jerry Springer show over my shoulder. Here I am feeling this swell of spiritual connection, joy and inspiration for my mission, while some woman is screaming at her husband to stop having sex with her Mother, or else! (To borrow from Dave Barry, I am not making this up.) It was surreal and a good laugh.
Your Turn:
I really encourage you to try this, even if you've created some form of affirmations many times before. Set an intention to go deeper and higher this time.
Fold your paper in the center. Label your left and right sides in language that is useful to YOU.
Start honestly diving in to that left side. Write it out. Put the pen down. Take a breath, and tune into to a higher energy (you can imagine an Inner Champion, Spiritual guides, a loving universe, whatever works for you). Now pick up the pen and write from that place. When that feels done, start back on the left side with another "fear" or limitation, and repeat the process. You can then toss away the left side and keep the right-using these Champion truths to give you a daily boost in the morning or at lunch, if you like.
Keep up this practice of accessing that energy and let it encourage and embolden you. You'll discover how it grows stronger and more convincing over time. It will also come faster with practice- like going from dial up to high speed. It's fun. And it moves you- inside and out. I would love to hear how this goes for you and wish you all the best! Let me know how I might support you, of course.
The sushi and Jerry Springer parts of this process are totally optional.
