We've put together a Worksheet to assist you; provided free of charge! We hope you find it of benefit.  Please drop us a line and tell us what you think of it!!

Our office is closed during the following period:

Saturday 8th December to
Wednesday 2nd January

(We've been listening to feedback from our clients and readers! 3 weeks instead of our usual 4; we'll recharge the batteries and be back on track right at the beginning of January when the job market starts to hot up again!)

If you want a resume written and finalised this year, our cut-off date is between Monday the 26th and Friday the 30th of November - dates dependable on how quickly you get all of your initial documentation to us and takes into consideration our standard turnaround time of 5-7 working days, proofing of the draft by you, and finalising of the documents by us :-)

Of course, as always, our online store is still fully operational 24/7 and is fully automated... if you order any of our writing services during our break (or even in our last week) you will receive your instructions and your project will be booked in for priority service upon our return.

Likewise, our software products are always available 24/7 and can be ordered and immediately downloaded from our site.

7 Steps to Living at the Speed of Life
by Jim Allen

Everywhere you turn today, people are in a constant rush: Hurry here! Hurry there! Free up an extra half-hour and you just might be able to squeeze one more task into your already overflowing schedule of things to do.

Unfortunately, too many of us these days mistake living fast for living well. They aren't the same things. Rather than spend your time rushing around not enjoying life, make the decision to do just the opposite. Choose to slow down.

Below I've listed 7 steps that will help you get started "gearing down" to a calmer, more enjoyable pace: your own, personal, speed of life.

1. Stop rushing

No matter how much you do or don't do, time passes by at a steady rate. Second by second, minute by minute. You can't change that. So accept it and pace yourself.

2. Stop being rushed

Of course, you'll need to spend some time telling the people around you that you're not going to rush anymore, but it's worth it. Take a stand: don't let others force you into fast forward mode.

3. Do less

It's natural for you to start rushing about when your list of activities is jam-packed. If you really want to slow down, reduce your commitments --it's okay to say "No" when people ask for your help and/or participation-- and free up some "spare" time.

4. Do nothing

Better yet, take #3 even further. Do less than less.... do nothing! Plan "nothing days". These are days when you have absolutely nothing that must be done -- days when anything you choose to do is the right thing to do.

5. Do one thing at a time

If you can't bring yourself to doing less (or nothing), then slow down by simply doing one thing at a time. You'll focus more on each task you do (and you'll probably complete it faster, too).

6. Do things now

Not everything, just the stuff that really must be done today. Pay your bills when they arrive, not the day they're due. Take out the trash when the trash is full, not just on the day the garbage truck comes by.

7. Do something for someone else

Spend an hour each week helping your favourite charity . You'll quickly see how valuable time really is and you'll feel great by focusing on helping others.

Goal Lines, Not Deadlines - The Positive Approach to Motivating Yourself and Others
by Brian Kathenes

Reams of material have been printed and presented on the subject of motivation. The greatest counselors, psychologists, and trainers have devoted their lives to the subject of motivation. Boiling it down to a short article may seem a bit trivial, but as trainers, we all have a need to condense the subjects we present. The topic of motivation is no different. The key points presented here have helped other trainers, managers, and business executives increase their productivity, feel better about the work they do, and become even more successful in all aspects of their lives. These ideas have helped them, and they can help you to develop a sense of self confidence that radiates to your staff, family, and friends.

Maslow coined the phrase "deficiency motivated behavior", but few of us take the time to investigate what he really meant and how it can help us as trainers and human beings. Maslow found that most people do something to avoid a result or outcome. People vow to "loose weight", "quit smoking", "stop swearing", "not be late any more"... Each statement comes from a negative approach to change. Each one of these changes can be rephrased in a positive way. "Be fit and trim", "Become a nonsmoker", "Improve my vocabulary", "Be on time - every time"... This may seem like a play on words or a minor point, but it is not. We are swamped with negativity every day. Coworkers bitch about the boss or something else. People complain about their health, the weather, taxes. You name it, they'll complain about it. We need to be free of that behavior in others and especially recognize it in ourselves when that little voice starts up. So that's phase one: Rephrase all your desires and goals into positive statements.

Here's an exercise you can start using immediately. Instead of setting "DEADLINES" set "GOAL LINES." Deadlines are final, they have negative connotations, meet the deadline or else, YOU LOSE (you're dead), Why not set goal lines...meet the goal line and YOU WIN!!!! Doesn't that sound better. Try it in your next meeting, and watch the blank stares you get from your staff.

Speaking of goals, the main reason people are not motivated is because they do not have clear goals. Without a reason to do something, it doesn't get done. If you give me a boat, an unmotivated person, and a lake, I'll make him the most motivated individual you have ever seen. I'll take him into the middle of the lake, throw him overboard and hold his head under water. In a matter of seconds, you will have the most motivated individual you have ever seen why? He has a goal...Breathing air instead of water.

We all have goals, but we rarely put them in writing. Everything that has ever been invented, everything that has ever been accomplished, everything that has ever been presented, has come initially from a thought. Someone had to think about it first. Without the thought nothing can happen. If that thought or goal is clearly written and well defined, you have a much better opportunity to make that goal a reality. Developing goal lines for your life will put you immediately into the top three percent of all people in the world. Very few people take the time to plan their life. They plan their vacation, shopping at the grocery store, car purchase, but not the Big Picture. Take the time to set your own goals. Describe them in detail. Develop a picture of what it will be like when you get there, and determine how that goal can help others as well.

This brings us to the final phase of motivation. Believing we can achieve those goals. Wayne Dyer published a book titled; "You'll see It When You Believe It. Earl Nightingale developed a tape program called; The Greatest Secret. Both of these important references are based on one concept; "WE BECOME WHAT WE THINK ABOUT MOST" If you don't believe these guys, how about Henry David Thoreau? "What a man thinks of himself, that it is which determines, or rather indicates, his fate. Or how about a quote from the bible; "As he thinketh in his heart, so is he" It is a matter of belief... knowing deep inside will achieve all your goals and desires. Make certain that every thought that you put in your mind is positive, constructive, and moves you toward your goal line. It is commonly referred to as "positive self-talk." Look at the positive things you have done. After a seminar most trainers, look at all the things they did wrong. "Oh I forgot to do this...we ran over...I lost their attention...I goofed on this section...." Instead, look at the things you did right. Reinforce the positive aspects of your presentation, then look for ways to improve it the next time.

Motivating yourself in a positive way takes three things; 1) Success motivated behavior, not deficiency motivated behavior; 2) A concise series or set of written goals; 3) Positive self-talk, the constant reinforcement of all our actions and the things you did properly. Sound simple? Why sure it's SIMPLE, but is it EASY? Probably not at first, but with a little practice every day you'll be setting goal lines instead of deadlines and scoring big for your life and your training career.
